Edge play: what it means

A loose term for activities that carry more physical or emotional risk than most, or that sit at the edge of someone’s comfort. It calls for education, experience, very careful negotiation and a lot of trust. What counts as “edge” varies from person to person.

In practice

What counts as edge play depends on the person: one person’s edge is another’s everyday. The common thread is higher risk, so it calls for real education, experience, careful negotiation and deep trust. It is never something to try on a first meeting or because someone pressured you.

Consent and safety

Learn before you try: classes, books and experienced, trusted people beat guesswork. Negotiate first, start gently, check in often, agree how to stop, and plan aftercare. Nobody owes anyone any activity, ever. For meeting someone new, see our safety tips.
