Sensation play: what it means
Exploring different physical sensations, such as feathers, ice, warmth, textures or a blindfold that heightens other senses. It is a gentle, popular starting point for people new to kink.
In practice
Sensation play is often recommended as a gentle starting point because it is easy to adjust and easy to stop. Common examples are feathers, soft fabrics, warm or cool temperatures, or a blindfold. Check for allergies and skin sensitivity first, and keep checking in, since sensations feel stronger than people expect.
Consent and safety
Learn before you try: classes, books and experienced, trusted people beat guesswork. Negotiate first, start gently, check in often, agree how to stop, and plan aftercare. Nobody owes anyone any activity, ever. For meeting someone new, see our safety tips.
