Power exchange: what it means
Any dynamic where partners consensually agree that one person will hold more control than the other for a time, inside agreed rules. It ranges from playful and occasional to structured and ongoing.
In practice
Power exchange can be playful and occasional or structured and long-term. What makes it consensual is that the person giving up control chose to, set the boundaries, and can take control back. It is always an agreement between equals about how to play, not a statement about anyone’s worth.
Consent and safety
Roles describe what partners agreed to, not who matters more. Every role sits inside negotiated limits, a working safeword or signal, and the freedom for anyone to step out of the dynamic at any time. Real-life respect never switches off. For meeting someone new, see our safety tips.
