Consent: what it means

A clear, freely given, informed and ongoing “yes” from every adult involved. Consent is specific (yes to one thing is not yes to everything), can be withdrawn at any moment, and cannot be given by someone who is pressured, asleep or too intoxicated to decide. In kink it is the foundation everything else rests on.

In practice

In practice, consent sounds like clear, specific questions and clear answers: “Is this okay?”, “Do you want to keep going?”. Enthusiasm counts; silence, hesitation or a reluctant “I guess” do not. Consent also covers the small things, like sharing photos or telling friends about a date. It is a conversation that keeps going, not a form you sign once.

Consent and safety

Consent tools only work when everyone agrees on them ahead of time, sober and without pressure. Anyone can pause or stop at any moment, and a “yes” last week is not a “yes” today. If something feels off, stopping is always the right call. For meeting someone new, see our safety tips.
